Like other premium iRobot models (including the top choice), they use smart mapping technology to create precise floor plans and eliminate common obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also feature carpet boost, a feature which boosts the robot's power when it detects the presence of dirt on the carpet in order to get it cleaned quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on bare floors and are especially adept in cleaning hair from dogs. They do have some flaws however, which prevent them from being our top choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people efficiently during our tests. It doesn't also come with a camera to look around corners.

However, it's a good robot vacuum choice for best robot hoover those who want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also quiet and works when you're at work or at school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on very well and can't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with a self-emptying dock, though. If you're required to clean the mopping pad, it can be swapped for one that is wet in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has strong suction and self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performing mop and vacuum combination uses advanced sensor technology to dodge obstacles and pet waste, and it also learns the layout of your home over time for more efficient cleaning. You can change the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones using the app that is well-designed. Its battery life is average in comparison to similar models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when in a room with carpet to prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also ideal to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ as well as the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean an entire house, finishing with the battery at 66 percent left. It also did a great job cleaning a range of floors and rooms with mixed flooring types, including certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was top notch, and it nimbly avoided fake dog socks, turds, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums this feature, which hasn't been seen in other robot autonomous vacuum/mop combinations.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek circular design that looks like a regular Roomba than the competition's compact models this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive designs in our reviews. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also its smartest. It has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop to score an exemplary 10/10 in our tests thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It comes with an easy mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in the mornings before work or during the night when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, although it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing with a little more noise and a little more cost, this is a very powerful two-in-one that will please almost everyone.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot mop and vacuum. It has a range of advanced features that will help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine, similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically empty the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and cleans and dries mop pads.

The smart robot employs the combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out the floor plan and detect obstacles, navigating more intelligently than some of its premium competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection but this was not 100% foolproof during our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home depending on the amount of dirt they tend to be.

If you have a bigger home, it's worth selecting a model with a zones or spot cleaning modes. This lets you instruct the robot vacuum with mop on which part of your home must be cleaned using the app or voice control. A stair mode can be useful if you own a lot furniture. Finally, a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is great for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you might imagine from its price. It does a stellar job vacuuming, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad and a reciprocating movement which is cleaner than the majority mop cleaners for robots that we've tried. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying base that is washable.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through a mapping run which collects information about your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or organize a spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas to improve performance. The app offers a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and best robot hoover advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and underneath furniture more easily. It also has a strong 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. You can also set up a spot-clean that will thoroughly clean a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like cute eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, but it is more likely to get stuck on low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that can't be used as an emptying bin.
