The X1 Omni's most appealing feature is its enormous dock, which doubles as a charging base as well as housing for two water tanks, a sink for cleaning, and a 2.5-liter dust bin that automatically eliminates.

The base also has a number of control buttons that allow you to start a cleaning job, recall the robot, or use the dock's automatic hoover emptying process. Hold down two of the buttons to toggle the child lock, which is a nice option for parents concerned about kids tinkering with the vacuum.

The Omni Omni like other robotic vacuums uses its camera to spot furniture and obstacles in its path. It will stay clear of them. True Mapping 2.0 navigation maps your home up to four times faster than laser detection systems.

Unfortunately, this means that the X1 Omni will occasionally become so entangled with obstacles, like an electrical cord dangling across a rug that it becomes stuck and stops working until you manually free it. While this was rare however, it was a gruelling experience when it happened, especially since the X1 Omni doesn't come with a "stuck" status alert in its application.

The X1 Omni isn't able to automatically switch from mopping to vacuuming mode during the cleaning process. You'll have to manually switch between the two, which isn't a big deal aside from the fact that mopping pads aren't cleaned and dried between use and can cause mildew or mold.

The X1 Omni looks great, thanks to the Jacob Jensen design team (of Bang & Olufsen fame) who designed its sleek modern, contemporary base and mopping pad. It's a significant contrast to the basic black bases of rivals such as Roborock or iRobot. And it's a welcome sight for the market that is dominated by boxy units.
